UVI’s BeatHawk for iPad finally arrives!

The long-awaited BeatHawk from UVI has just been released. If you're unfamiliar with BeatHawk, it is an MPC-style app designed for quick beats and tracks.

With all due respect to UVI, ignore the slick marketing promotional video, and watch the tutorial videos instead (UVI YouTube channel here).

Here's one good look at the app in action, showing off some of the demo songs available over at their Soundcloud page:

I've received a copy of the app, and have had a brief play around with it. It seems to be a very easy app to dive right in to. I found myself creating little beats quickly. There are two sound libraries included, an "EDM" and "Urban" package. There are a bunch more available through IAP, and these will run you anywhere from $1.99 to $9.99. Browsing through the libraries was easy, and being able to preview the sounds made choosing the right one simple. The sounds are all subdivided into folders such as Drums, Bass, Leads, etc. The keyboard mode within the pads for creating a melody or bass line on one pad is real slick.

I'll keep looking around, but I couldn't find any type of grid/piano roll editor, which is something I would have liked (Mr. No Rhythm here). Also, this app is big, over 800 MB.

On the plus side, it is iOS 7 compatible.  On the BIG plus side, it is Audiobus compatible as well as IAA (unlike another certain MPC app *ahem*). You can also records your own samples into the app.

As I mentioned, I'm still just digging in to the app right now. Having watched the tutorial videos was real helpful to get started, as I don't think there is a manual available. This feels like a good start, and I'm hoping that UVI keeps up development of the app. As there is no one true great MPC app, it would be nice to see someone step up.

The app is currently on sale for $4.99, which is 50% off regular price. This is a launch sale, so I'm not sure how long it will last.
