Holderness Media has just released a brand new effects app for your iPad. Called Johnny, it is a multiwave tremolo effect. Check out the release demo video below:
With an interface similar to recent releases such as Caramel, Crystalline, and Swoopster, this new app will be immediately user-friendly. As with the other apps from Christopher Rice, you can coax out some subtle tremolo, or take it to the limit (sorry for putting that Eagles song in your head...).
The X/Y pads are for controlling Depth and Rate as well as the multiwave mix and shape. A great feature of these apps is the ability to either link the left & channels, or to set separate levels for each. This can cause some wild feelings in your brain if you set these to two completely different rates.
Again, as with the other recent Holderness apps, there is a tweak screen where you can adjust the parameters by way of sliders. From this screen you can also set up MIDI learn for the sliders.
Of course, Johnny ships with some great presets to start you out. Just sending a single held note from Sunrizer through these presets got me some crazy thumping sounds. Compatible with iOS 7.1 and above, Audiobus and Inter-App Audio (IAA), this app should work well for everyone.
At this point, if you've been reading my reviews for any length of time, you don't need me to tell you that this is another great effects app. There are not many (any?) dedicated tremolo apps out there, and the only ones I can think of our within apps like JamUp or ToneStack. But, while those effects are fine, they don't have the amount of control that is available here in Johnny. Go get this app.
Obligatory "Here's Johnny" reference.
