Korvpressor from Klevgränd arrives – A new compressor/ limiter for your iPad

After taking an unexpected (and welcomed) departure into creating a synthesizer with Enkl, the developers at Klevgränd have returned to making effects apps with Korvpressor. Complimenting their already outstanding distortion app (Squashit), delay app (Vandelay), reverb (Røverb), and phaser/flanger/chorus (Svep), Korvpressor is a compressor/limiter app. I've highlighted how much I like their previous efforts here, and Korvpressor is just as nice. Check out the launch video below.

What makes the Klevgränd apps so great to use is their interface. Not being concerned with dials and numbers as much as visualizations and "using your ears", these apps are very intuitive to use after just a few minutes. I'll admit to not being very experienced with compression, so I very much appreciated the interface here in Korvpressor. As far as I can see, there is no manual for the app, but it's really not needed. Simply adjusting the input, "squeeze", and output is all you need.

You can also adjust the low, mid, and high frequency gains with the corresponding dials. If you've created a configuration that you like, you can save that as a preset as well.

Korvpressor (full name "Korvpressor - smart dynamic hotdog device) is an iPad-only app, but is also available as an AU or VST for desktop devices as well (checkout the free demos here). The app is Audiobus 2 and Inter-App Audio (IAA) compatible, and requires iOS 7.0 and higher.

This may be one of my shorter reviews, and for good reason. Korvpressor is a straight-forward, simple app that does exactly what it says it can do. The minimal UI makes it easy to dial in the right sound with little effort. Rather than setting dials to a certain threshold, you simply use your ears until it sounds right. There's is no overwhelming or intimidating controls here, which is great for someone like me.

Korvpressor is currently on a "launch price sale" of $4.99 USD until June 30th, at which time it will increase to $7.99. If you're looking for a simple app to add some compression to your tracks, give Korvpressor a try.
