MusiClock – A great jamming app and scale trainer for iOS

image

MusiClock by developer perTunes is a nice little improv jamming app that can also be used as a scale trainer. As a musician with less than impressive music theory training, and with a five year-old drummer and seven year-old pianist for accompaniment, this app helps me in both categories. Check out the quick developer demo Rock On →

Esspresso – The latest app from Klevgränd Produktion AB

1037999669

Earlier this year, the developers at Klevgränd Produktion AB promised a new app each month this fall. Last month brought us Pressit, a multiband compressor. They are now 2-for-2, as they have just released Esspresso, a de-esser for iPad (also available for Windows and Mac’s). As is their way, this release also gives us another brilliant Rock On →

Midiflow – An incredibly full-featured MIDI utility app

midiflowicon

Midiflow by developer Johannes Doerr has been available for some time, so this isn’t a typical “new” app review. Quite frankly, MIDI has always been a bit of a mystery to me, so I’d stayed away from this app. Most if not all of my iOS tracks have been live recordings layered on top of Rock On →

The developers Bitcount Ltd. have recently released a new app call AnalogKit. Billed as a “music hacker’s paradise”, the app aims to please both experienced modular synth users as well as those who just love to experiment. Knowing that I fall more into the latter category, I was eager to take AnalogKit for a spin. Rock On →

Here is an awesome video of Mark busking in the streets on DrumKick, along with some guitar. Check out the use of Rock On →

BIAS FX – A monster guitar effects app from Positive Grid

937685528

If you’re a guitarist using iOS devices, there’s no doubt that you’ve already heard about BIAS FX. Released back in April of this year, I’m very late to the party. But I’m on board now, and I’m very much enjoying the latest offering from Positive Grid. Check of just one of their YouTube demos for Rock On →

Jam Maestro gets a big update in Version 3.2!

596628003

Jam Maestro by developer David Blake is an app that we’ve featured here quite a bit on iOS MARS. Both Ryan and myself are primarily guitarists, and this app is brilliant. I’m a self-taught guitarist who primarily learned how to play by reading as many Guitar World and GFTPM tab magazines as I could get Rock On →

Developer Matthew Caldwell has just released another new iOS effects app, this one called Muckraker. This app is a distortion app that is capable of many dangerous things. Check out his video demo: As you can see, this app has a wide range of tones, but it really excels at gritty, nasty distortion. This app Rock On →
